This rotation allows residents the opportunity to review airway management and practice bag mask ventilation, special airways, intubations and peripheral intravenous line placements. It will also serve as a time to gain familiarity with patient monitoring and gain familiarity with anesthetic medications and methods.
Attire: hospital issued scrubs for the OR
- Grab some from the scrub machines – OCH 3rd floor by the stair case or Conventus 2nd floor hallway just before ambulatory surgery
- The locker rooms are located on the 2nd floor in the Conventus. Please bring your own lock, pick a locker and let (Megan Roemer) mroemer@kaleidahealth.org know if there are any issues.
Start Time: 1:00pm - show up and say you’re the peds residents for anesthesia for the day. They should direct you to the OR where you’ll be for the day. Do not be afraid to ask for procedures to do!
Week prior to rotation: Please contact Megan Roemer (MRoemer@kaleidahealth.org) at least one week prior about when you are coming in so that they can add you on to the schedule and be given directions.

- call them around 12:30pm that day and they will tell you where to meet them
- Usually you meet them in the OR on the 2nd floor, or sometimes in the anesthesia office on the 3rd floor of Conventus
You will be working with Dr. Amanda Hassinger of the Sleep Center. You should call or text her at (716) 812-8141 the day prior to your rotation. You can also email her at ahassinger@upa.chob.edu with any questions. You will be spending the afternoon (1-4 PM) as she does her Sleep Center tele-medicine visits. This is a *new* rotation starting July 2023. You will be working with our certified Lactation Consults at OCH. You can contact the on-call lactation consultant at (716) 323-3278 or (716) 323-3279. Residents will spend the afternoon working with refugee and immigrant families that spend time Jericho Road Family Medicine. You will be shadowing WCC and sick visits for their patients. You will shadow Dr. Alicia Supernault-Sarker and her patient panel for the day.

Residents will spend an afternoon with PHS at High Pointe, the only long term healthcare facility for complex pediatric patients in the area. These complex patients will allow residents to know about long-term care for children with complex problems as well as get to know what happens outside of the hospital for these complicated patients.

*Per NYS law, all healthcare providers at High Pointe must be vaccinated against COVID 19 and show proof of vaccination prior to rotating there. If you are unvaccinated or do not have proof of vaccination, please let us know so that we can find an alternative intern experience for you.
This experience will give residents to familiarize themselves with pediatric ophthalmology, common complaints, syndromes and emergencies.

Location: Opthalmology Clinic – 3rd floor Conventus
Afternoon clinic session begins at 1:00pm
Residents will spend this half-day with the respiratory therapy team learning about the various types of respiratory therapies and treatments given to hospitalized patients. This is the best time to learn about various types of chest PT, when to use them.
Location: meet the RT team on the 9th floor of OCH at 1:00pm
*Get off the elevators and as you’re heading toward the PICU, you’ll see a usually open door where the RT and STAT team members are.
Residents will spend this half-day with the J10 Nurses learning about the bedside care for inpatients (including the chronic complex patients) at OCH.
